BRDC Co-Directors regularly teach at Texas Dance Improvisation Festival, the American College Dance Association, and Dance Co-op. Individually, we have been commissioned to teach master classes at Baylor University, Collin College, Northwest Vista College, Tarrant County College, University of North Texas, University of Texas at San Antonio, {254}Dance-Fest, and A Room to Create in Pasadena, CA. Additionally, we have been invited to teach with Dance for the Planet, FurtherDance Fort Worth, and numerous high schools and studios throughout Texas. In 2018, BRDC was voted Best of Denton in Education & Training. Please contact us if you are interested in BRDC offering a class in your dance space!
GROUP PARTNERING
Co-Directors of BRDC collaboratively teach this class using principles from Contact Improvisation and ensemble composition. We will explore accessing ledges, lofting, and creating moving architecture, while navigating ways to make spontaneous compositional choices as a group. Throughout this class, we will work to connect our bodies on a large scale and investigate how several can support one or a few. (Some CI experience helpful but not required)
MODERN TECHNIQUE
Classes weave improvisation with rigorous phrase work to investigate artistic choices and challenge movement range. Influenced by our collective training in release techniques, Contact Improvisation, and functional anatomy, our technique classes focus on use of momentum, spirals, and efficient movement patterns that travel in and out of floorwork.
CONTACT IMPROVISATION
BRDC's CI classes offer skill-building exercises for functional and dynamic partnering exchanges, typically in duets and trios. Beginners through advanced practitioners work to refine their skills and practice risk-taking in a safe and supportive environment.
IMPROVISATION
With over a decade of experience in various improvisational forms, our co-directors will guide solo and ensemble creative processes through spontaneous, structured, physical, and conceptual practices.
MOVEMENT FUNDAMENTALS
As certified Movement Fundamentals artists, the co-directors will offer a variety of activities that embody the tenets of Movement Fundamentals, introduce the Four Phases practice, and explore dance making with Directography.
BODYWORK FOR DANCERS
Teacher: Amanda Jackson
This class integrates elements of Thai Yoga Bodywork, massage therapy, and Contact Improvisation. Sustained compressions are blended with stretching positions and joint mobilization to target specific dancer needs. Class is designed for partner work, and students will experience both giving and receiving. *Students should bring a mat or blanket to class.
CONTEMPORARY DANCE WITH A FIT BALL
Teacher: Crysta Caulkins-Clouse
Through exploring repertoire from Crysta's recent work Until it Slides Away, dancers will learn fundamental movement patterns on a fit ball that focus on balance, range of motion, weight shifts, and passing the ball from one person to another. Dance work on a fit ball will also fully engage the core, improve arm and shoulder strength, enhance partnering skills, strengthen deep muscles, and offer dancers a unique way to enter movement practice.
